Patriot’s pen

Authors note: I wrote about the patriot’s pen essay, which is a nationwide competition for the best written piece. The theme is “Are you proud of your country?”, but I will not enter in the competition.

Are you proud of your country? Yes. Over the last 200 years we have won our independences, survived a civil war, fought in the 2 worst wars in history, and gone though economic ups and downs. We had bad times and good times as a country. Together, we helped each other though the hard times. Together as a country, we are strong.

The United States of America has a rich history of the 200 years as a nation. It started back when settlers in the Massachusetts colony fired the first shots at British soldiers at Lexington. That first shot is called “the shot heard around the world” It started the war for American independences. The war was from 1775-1783. Many people died trying to freedom from the British. Note able American victories are Saratoga, Yorktown, and Trenton.

During the 1800’s America was divided by slavery. The south, was for slavery, and the north, which is against slavery. It kept boiling until the civil war. Over 212,900 died in 5 years of war. It was and still is the worst war America has ever been in. Some of the biggest battles were Gettysburg, Bull Run 1&2, Antietam, Shiloh, and the siege of Petersburg.

The 1900’s started with the First World War, known as the war to end all wars, and the roaring 20’s with probation. In 1929, the stock market crashed. It started the 30’s great depression. After 40’s with the Second World War, 50’s with Elvis and more famous singers came.  60’s and 70’s went by fast with the Vietnam War and hippie movements. 80’s came with technical advances.
90’s came by fast with the fall of soviet Russia, which made everybody happy.

Together, we are a strong country. All of us stand together in good and bad times. We had rich past, and have a promising future. The U.S.A. will survive anything that is thrown at us.

Junk food

Author's note: This topic came out of  a discussion with a teacher, when i didn't have a topic to write about.  The teacher suggested that I write about junk food because it's a popular topic.

Should junk food be banned in school? I say no. It’s all most a staple in for quick food in America and other parts of the world. They’re sold almost anywhere. Wal-Mart, Subway, Pick’n save, and more. They are a worldwide staple for quick food.

There are all different types of junk food. Cheetos, hamburgers, bite size cookies, fries, cheese-its, pizza, sun chips, lays chips, and lots more! Some choices are healthier than others.  Over all, choices are not very healthy. They give you a quick energy, make you feel full and taste good. After a little bit of time, you can crash.  Making you very tired and hungry.

What’s in the junk food that we eat? All different types of stuff! Calories, fat, Trans fat, sugar, even more! Unhealthy is junk food’s middle name. That doesn’t stop people from eating it. A great taste, boost of energy, and makes you full. If you eat too much you can, get fat, puke, get lazy, and more.

The facts are not that great.  That’s junk food. It first started coming in to the USA back after world war one, when cars where cheap. White castle was the first fast food chain. They severed hamburgers. Since then McDonald’s, Burger king, KFC, Pizza hut, and Taco bell are now in several different countries. Worldwide they are severing billions of people, and getting trillions in revenue in a couple weeks.

Junk food is a staple food though out the world. It’s eaten by many all over the world. Americans, Chinese, Russian, French, South African, Chilean, and New Zealander. It doesn’t matter! We all eat junk food, so why should it be banned from school?
