The Book Thief

Auothor's note: A great book for anybody to read. The book thief made me think, that this would be great to write about. I made so many connections.

What might it be like if you live in Nazi Germany during World War II? In the novel “The Book Thiefby Markus Zusak, the main character, Lesiel, lives in just that place. What life is like for a child growing up in Nazi Germany during World War II.

In 1939, an 11 year old Lesiel, and her younger brother, were sent off to live with a different family. Their father was a communist, which was in conflict with Hitler’s Nationalist party. Sadly, her younger brother dies of a disease. After a little while she meets a boy named Rudy, who likes her but she only sees him as a friend. At her brother’s funeral, she steals her first book called “The Grave Digger’s handbook”. From that point on, Lesiel rescues books from burnings, steals them from the neighbors, and breaks into the mayor’s private library, with the help of Rudy. Also during the holocaust, Lesiel and her new family protect a Jewish friend, by hiding him in the basement. Lesiel encounters many more challenges during the war.

I thought that this was a great book because; I made lots of connections to it. Lesiel enjoyed reading and so do I. The time frame of World War II is very interesting to me. I enjoy learning about World War II. The suspense was great in this book. There was always something happening and it was real. It was a true story.

Lesiel’s true story of living in Nazi Germany, made me realize what life was like during World War II. I thought this was an awesome book, and I think that everybody should read a true story about World War II. Reading this, you will be able to easily make connection to the book. That’s why you should give this great book a try.
